How to Import Your Medical Records into CareClinic

CareClinic › Getting Started › Import Medical Records

Your hospital already has your lab results, your medication list and your vaccine history. Connect that hospital to the Health app on your iPhone once, and CareClinic can bring those records in for you, so you are not retyping a discharge summary or squinting at an old printout.

What you can import

Choose any mix of these record types each time you import.

Lab results

Each test with its value, unit and reference range, ready to compare with your next result.

Medications

Prescriptions from your record, with the dose and how often to take it when the record includes them.

Conditions

Diagnoses with the date they started, the first thing a new specialist asks about.

Vitals

Heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, weight, height, BMI and oxygen saturation taken at your visits.

Allergies

What you react to, how serious it is and the reaction you had, ready before any new prescription.

Immunizations

Vaccines with their dates, plus the lot number, dose and site when your clinic recorded them.

Procedures, such as a surgery or a colonoscopy, come in too and are kept with your Health Events.

Where your records come from

CareClinic imports clinical records from Apple Health Records on iPhone. Health Records is the part of the Health app that downloads your records straight from hospitals and clinics, including many that use Epic MyChart or Cerner patient portals. It is offered in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

  1. Open the Health app on your iPhone and tap your profile picture at the top.
  2. Tap Health Records, then Get Started or Add Account.
  3. Search for your hospital, clinic or health system and sign in with your patient portal login, such as your MyChart username and password.
  4. Wait for the Health app to finish downloading. When your records show under Health Records, CareClinic can import them.

Tip Have a report from a clinic that is not in the Health app? Add the values by hand or keep the PDF in Documents. The Lab Results guide shows both. Your watch, scale and glucose monitor connect separately, through Apple Health and Device Sync.

Import your records step by step

Start once the Health app shows your records.

  1. Tap More, then Integrations, then Import Records.
  2. Under Select Record Types, keep the types you want. They all start switched on, and Select All or Unselect All changes them in one tap.
  3. Under Date Range, check the dates. The past year is set for you. Tap the dates to choose a different From and To.
  4. Tap Start Import.
  5. When the Apple Health permission sheet opens, allow the record types you want CareClinic to read.
  6. The Importing Records sheet counts each type as it scans. Import Complete means your records are in.

You can also start from two other places. On More, tap the gear icon and Import Records sits at the end of your record list. In Insights, the Biomarkers view offers Import health records under Get Started before you have any results.

Tip No signal? You will see You are offline. Imports will be queued. CareClinic finishes the import once you are back online. If you see Health Records Not Available, the Health app has no records to share on this iPhone yet. Connect your hospital in the Health app first, then try again.

What happens to imported records

Each record lands where you would have typed it yourself, so you find it in the usual place.

  • Lab results go to Lab & Imaging with their reference ranges, and they appear in Insights under Biomarkers, where values outside the range are marked out of range.
  • Vitals become measurements on your Timeline and in your Insights charts, next to the readings you take at home.
  • Conditions, Allergies and Immunizations fill their own records, ready for the questions every new doctor asks.
  • Procedures are kept in Health Events.
  • Medications join your medication list without reminders. Add reminder times for the ones you take, as the Medications and Reminders guide shows.

Do not see a record card? Switch it on from the gear icon on More. Last Synced on the Import Records screen shows when you last imported. Run Import Records again after each visit to pick up new results. Records you already imported are recognized and skipped, so nothing is added twice.

Your privacy

  • CareClinic reads only the record types you allow on the Apple Health permission sheet, and only when you tap Start Import. CareClinic never starts an import on its own.
  • Imported records are saved to your CareClinic account over encrypted connections and sync to your other devices, like the rest of your health data.
  • You decide which people on your Care Team can see your records.
  • To stop access, open the iPhone Settings app, tap Health, then Data Access and Devices, then CareClinic, and switch off the record types.

More on locking the app and sharing controls is in Privacy and Security, and on our data security page.

Common questions

Can I import my records from MyChart?

Yes, through the Health app. Connect your hospital's MyChart account under Health Records in the Health app on your iPhone, then open More, Integrations, Import Records in CareClinic.

Can I import medical records on Android?

Importing clinical records works on iPhone, because it reads Apple Health Records. On Android, add records by hand in Conditions, Allergies, Immunizations and Lab & Imaging, or upload your reports to Documents.

Can I import records on my Mac or on the web?

Run the import on your iPhone. The records are saved to your account, so they also appear in CareClinic for Mac and on the web.

Which countries can import health records?

The United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, where Apple Health Records is offered.

Will importing again create duplicates?

No. Records you already imported are recognized and skipped. Import again after each visit to pick up new results.

How far back can I import?

As far back as your records in the Health app go. CareClinic starts with the past year. Change the From date under Date Range to go further back.

What if some records could not be added?

CareClinic shows Some imported records could not be added to your trackers yet. Tap the message to retry. CareClinic keeps those records and tries again without asking you to import from scratch.
