Why is medication adherence generally low?
Patients often forget to take their medication or do not take it as prescribed for a variety of reasons. According to the CDC, one-third of Americans do not take their medication as prescribed. This can be due to forgetting to take the medication, or simply because the patient does not have the medication with them when they need it. Other reasons for not taking medication as prescribed include the cost of the medication, side effects, or simply not understanding how to take the medication.
What is the most important factor in taking my medication?
The most important factor in taking your medication is understanding why you are taking it. According to a study by the University of Pittsburgh, patients who understand why they are taking their medication are more likely to take it as prescribed. This is because they have a clear goal in mind, and they know that taking their medication will help them achieve that goal. Other important factors in taking your medication as prescribed include having a support system in place, such as family or friends, and having a reminder system, such as an alarm on your phone.

Isn’t it as simple as setting a reminder in my Alarm Clock app? Alarm clock apps do not produce logs and charts to help you keep track of if you have taken your medication or not. This is especially true for ad-hoc or “PRN” medications.
Secondly, alarm apps can not handle tapering dose strengths that vary throughout the day. CareClinic’s dosing reminder system is flexible and can handle any type of pill schedule.
Another often overlooked feature is the privacy feature which allows you to receive a generic notification that reveals the name of the actual medication once tapped within the App. You can protect your privacy further by using the biometric password protection built right into CareClinic to view the name of your medication.
